Black people face a biased health care system every day. With so much at stake, there’s never been a more important time to quit smoking.

Some truths about smoking and Black communities.

The tobacco industry has targeted Black communities for years and continues to do so today. There are up to 10x more tobacco ads in Black neighborhoods than in other neighborhoods.

The percentage of Black adults in Greater Cincinnati who are current smokers is the same as white adults. However, Black smokers are more likely to die from smoking-related diseases than people who are white.

Menthol cigarettes and other flavored tobacco products, such as little cigars and cigarillos, have been intentionally targeted to Black communities. Menthol cigarettes are just as harmful to health as non-menthol cigarettes and are easier to start and harder to quit.
